Tending the Sacred
The project introduced youth workers to the concept of Ecocentric Development, an innovative educational approach inspired by nature that supports personal growth, environmental responsibility and meaningful youth participation.
Tending the Sacred is an Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers project coordinated by Inspiration Path that brings together youth workers from nine European countries to explore Ecocentric Development - an innovative approach that strengthens the relationship between people and the natural world.
The project was created in response to the growing need for more meaningful environmental education in youth work. While many initiatives focus on raising awareness about environmental issues, Tending the Sacred goes a step further by encouraging a deeper emotional and personal connection with nature. Inspired by the principles of Ecocentric Development, the project supports youth workers in helping young people see themselves as part of nature, fostering a sense of belonging, responsibility and care for the Earth.

Through an international training course held in Cyprus in February 2026, participants explored innovative non-formal education methods, including nature-based learning, experiential learning, storytelling, reflection and creative practices. These methods equipped youth workers with practical tools they can use to inspire young people to become more environmentally conscious, active citizens and contributors to a more sustainable future.
Beyond the training course, the project expanded its impact through local follow-up activities, an online webinar and other dissemination initiatives, ensuring that the knowledge and resources developed during the project remain accessible to youth workers, educators and organisations across Europe.
By strengthening the competences of youth workers and promoting innovative approaches to sustainability education, Tending the Sacred contributes to higher quality youth work, supports the green transition and encourages communities to build a more respectful and harmonious relationship with nature.
